WINTERREISE - short synopsis

Franz Brenninger sixty years old and a manic depressive.  His mood swings and outrageous behaviour finally alienate most of his family and friends and his business begins to suffer.  In desperation he takes up an offer on the internet which turns out to be a con.  Franz, accompanied by 18-year old student, Leyla, as his translator, sets off for Africa to get his money back.
This psychological drama addresses the question of the fragile border between illness and “normality”. Josef Bierbichler in the leading role is superbly supported by Hanna Schygulla in the role of Franz’s wife Martha, and Sibel Kekilli as Leyla.
